PSG finally want the trophy and are arming themselves mightily. Will it also get a superweapon named Pogba?
The French club is not leaving anything to chance after an unsuccessful season in which it did not even dominate the domestic league. Now it wants to bring in one more quality player in the midfield on top of that, and there is more and more talk that Paul Pogba could be their man.
Hakimi, Wijnaldum, Ramos and Donnarumma. All of these big names will be written on Paris Saint-Germain jerseys next season. The French club is leaving nothing to chance after an unsuccessful season in which they didn’t even dominate the domestic league. Now, it wants to bring in another quality player on top of that in the midfield and there is more and more talk that Paul Pogba could be their man.
They won the French Cup and the Super Cup, yet they couldn’t evaluate the season positively. After all, the PSG players, one of the richest and most ambitious football teams on the continent, did not even fulfil their ‘duty’ of dominating the domestic Ligue 1, let alone their main goal of winning the Eared Cup, as they crashed out to Manchester City in the semi-finals.
It was therefore clear that more fundamental changes would be made in the summer. And the Parisian champion Leonardo, aka the club’s sporting director, and his cronies are not going to be idle!
The Park of Princes will now have Georginio Wijnaldum, Sergio Ramos and Gianluigi Donnarumma as their second home (apparently, he has already signed a contract as well, with an official announcement pending before the end of the Euros). All extremely sound names. And PSG didn’t have to pay a cent for any of them.
This shows the high quality of the Parisian management, which is doing everything possible to ensure that the desired success in the next edition is already here.
That’s why he also completed the transfer of Danilo Pereira from Porto, who has only been a guest under the Eiffel Tower so far. He also bought the African defensive superstar Achraf Hakimi from Inter. The emphasis on strengthening the back line is more than evident from the summer signings.
But that may not be all! The biggest bombshell the Parisians are going to detonate is at the end. They plan to make a transfer of Paul Pogba, who would return to his native country after 12 years.
According to inside sources, the player himself would not resist the transfer at all. Moreover, Manchester United would want less than 80 million euros for him, so negotiations have already started. The only dilemma for Leonardo and co. is whether to wait for next year and get Pogba for free.
In that case, the Parisians could temporarily patch up the midfield with one of the Eduardo Camavinga-Sergei Milinkovic-Savic pairing, who are supposed to be written in the smallest of print on the list of possible reinforcements under Pogba’s name.
Whatever extra transfers PSG want to make this summer, they will have to sell a few players first. But that’s what’s being counted on anyway. Ander Herrera, Pablo Sarabia, Thilo Kehrer and maybe even Mauro Icardi are apparently on their way out.
