Champions League
Promotion to the Champions League? It would be a huge advertisement for women’s football, Martínková said. What is the reward for qualification?
Czech women’s football is one step away from great success. Both Prague S are fighting for the group stage of the Champions League. Sparta play their first match at home, at 18:30 they will challenge AS Rome from Italy at Letná. What is the feedback from the booth ahead of the important match?

Women’s football is on the rise. The Champions League, where clubs can earn a lot of money, is also to blame. Compared to previous editions, the potential profits are much higher this time around.
Sparta and Slavia have one last step to take, they have to beat AS Rome or Valur Reykjavik in a double-header. And the reward for advancing to the group stage will be 10 million crowns.
This is a sum that could significantly help the whole of Czech football. The league is still far from complete professionalism, even some of the players of Prague S.
“It would be a huge advertisement for women’s football. It would bring not only media interest, but also experience for young female players. Tough matches during the Champions League would certainly give them a boost,” said Lucie Martínková at the press conference.
“This is a bit of a disadvantage of women’s football is that our league is not harder. If we played more difficult matches than just Slavia, it would be easier to prepare for matches in Europe,” added Petra Bertholdova.
If the Spartans manage to win, they will have to succeed in the rematch, which will be played in Rome at Stadio Tre Fontane on 29 September from 14:30. If Sparta advances, it would be one of the 16 teams that will play in the Champions League.
