The UFC welterweight division is getting really interesting. The champion is now Jamahal Hill, however he should be tested by Jiri Prochazka in the title fight. But there are many more fighters who want to fight for the throne.
But now a new name is coming into the game. Former middleweight champion Alex Pereira, who just last year defeated Israel Adesanya only to fall to him in the second round in a rematch, has announced his move up a weight division.
Pereira is, among other things, a friend and confidant of Glover Teixeira, the man whom Prochazka defeated in the title fight. Moreover, he is a tough elite stand-up fighter and fans would like to see him fight the Moravian fighter.
Procházka’s trainer Martin Karaivanov reacted to Pereira’s arrival to his charge’s weight class. He revealed on Twitter that he likes the Brazilian’s style, adding that he is really looking forward to a possible fight with Procházka.
“Pereira is big and also he won’t be dropping so extremely, which could have a positive effect on his form in the fight,” Karaivanov told MMA Shorties.
“The UFC will definitely push him and the welterweight division is starting to become a very stand-up division, which suits us,” added Prochazka’s coach.
Now, however, Prochazka and his coaches need to focus on a quality rehab and then a fight with Hill. Karaivanov, however, intends to continue to monitor developments throughout the division.
