Procházka vs. Blachowicz in a title fight? The European megafight is taking shape. American brash and Brazilian executioner stand in the way
When Jiri Prochazka became UFC champion, a big European fight was on the line. For former division king Jan Blachowicz was making a strong claim to fame. However, the Moravian opted for a rematch with Glover Teixeira, which ultimately fell through due to a BJP injury and the belt was vacated. Now, however, paths are again looming that will bring the two fighters together.

A UFC title fight between the Moravian and Polish fighter in a stadium for 60,000 people? A scenario that was in play the moment Jiri Prochazka became welterweight champion after defeating Glover Teixeira. Loudly promoted by Jan Blachowicz.
The question is how much the UFC itself was in favour of the idea. But given that BJP could have chosen to rematch the Brazilian, apparently the odds weren’t too great. But a lot has happened since then.
Walk was seriously injured while preparing for his first defense, vacating the title, and Blachowicz was able to fight for the belt again. However, he only drew with Magomed Ankalaev and the organization’s boss Dana White was furious. Mostly because of the attractiveness of the fight.
So Teixeira was immediately given the chance to win the title back. He faced the unexpected Jamahal Hill, who was underestimated. But in a five-round battle, he overwhelmingly dispatched the Brazilian and is the new champion. He’s still waiting for his first defense. The American himself is constantly putting pressure on Prochazka, but it is expected that the Moravian will challenge him later this year.
And here we are finally getting to the fact that the Procházka vs. Blachowicz battle could actually happen. But it has two catches. The first is that the Moravian samurai has to beat Hill and regain the title.
The second is a little bigger. Blachowicz will face the dreaded puncher. That’s because the welterweight division adds newcomer Alex Pereira, who, while he doesn’t have as many fights in MMA, did go all the way to the middleweight title when he defeated Israel Adesanya for the third time in his combat sports career, but he came back from defeat.
Blachowicz will probably be a slight favorite because of his complexity. Indeed, even Adesanya suspects that it will be ground skills that will be the deciding factor in favour of the Polish fighter.
Moreover, the Polish star now admits that if he wins, he is promised a title fight by the UFC. So the motivation is huge.
