UFC 291 offered a duel between two of the top fighters in the welterweight division. Jan Blachowicz welcomed the Brazilian slugger in the under 93kg category, Alex Pereira managed to defeat him. What did Jiri Prochazka think and what are the feelings of Blachowicz and Pereira?

The welterweight division was supposed to see a title fight between Jiri Prochazka and champion Jamahal Hill, however Hill was injured and, following the example of the Moravian samurai, he vacated the title. Jan Blachowicz and Alex Pereira will fight for the duel with Prochazka.

Two former champions, a seasoned MMA veteran, against a still relatively MMA newcomer. In addition, the Brazilian fought in the UFC at welterweight for the first time. Blachowicz was the slight favorite and was able to assert his style in the first round.

However, the Pole left a lot to be desired in the first five minutes and although he won it, it negatively affected his performance in the next two rounds. Pereira looked fresher and started to gain more confidence, while Blachowicz had trouble getting the Brazilian to the ground.

However, it wasn’t that Pereira started to dominate. He was perhaps more active and a little more accurate, but Blachowicz was still threatening with hard punches and Pereira had to be cautious. The fight eventually ended on points, with two judges seeing Pereira win, one seeing Blachowicz win.

Pereira would thus be Prochazka’s next opponent in the welterweight title fight. After the win, he said he had some business to take care of. He was probably referring to the revenge of his coach and friend Glover Teixeira, from whom Prochazka took the title.

While there was speculation that he was talking about another duel with Adesanya, he now wants to focus his attention on the welterweight division.

Blachowicz was not happy with the result against Pereira. “A bunch of thieves, they robbed me. Anyway, thank you all for the support. I’ll be back,” he wrote on social media.

Prochazka’s coach Martin Karaivanov was quick to react to the result of the fight, saying that he and Teixeira will probably meet again. It didn’t take long for Prochazka himself to comment briefly. His reaction is all telling.
