At 42, Glover Teixeira became the second oldest champion in UFC history. Very surprisingly, he was able to defeat Jan Blachowicz. Contrary to expectations, Jiri Prochazka will challenge Teixeira for the title.
He was an outsider, few people trusted him, yet at the age of 42, Glover Teixeira became the new UFC welterweight champion.
He dominated Jan Blachowicz on the ground in the first round, then loaded him up in the standup in the second, only to force a tap out on the ground seconds later by choke.
Immediately after the win, still in the octagon, Teixeira reported that Jiri Prochazka was next up and was the official replacement for the bout.
After the fight, the Moravian fighter went to praise the new champion of his weight division for his outstanding performance.
Teixeira then understandably had to face a question at the press conference as to what he thought of Prochazka as his next opponent. He wasn’t too forthcoming, though.
“He’s a tough fighter, I’m looking forward to fighting him. But now I’m going to have a beer, which Blachowicz gave me, and I’m looking forward to rest,” the native of Brazil let himself be heard.
According to his words, Teixeira could be ready for another title fight next May. So the walk-on will wait a few more months for his next fight. But he is sure to get the opportunity to win the most valuable belt in the MMA world.
