Jiří Procházka will fight for the UFC title on June 11th, his opponent will be Brazilian veteran Glover Teixeira, who defeated former champion Jan Blachowicz. What did the Czech fighter say before his departure to Thailand?
Jiri Prochazka’s last fight was in May last year. The Czech wrestler was then an alternate for the title fight between Glover Teixeira and Jan Blachowicz and did not enter any fight.
He didn’t want to jeopardize his chance, which soon came. He will face the winner of Teixeira for the UFC welterweight title in Singapore on June 11.
“He’s going to rely on his experience. He will want to surprise me, to enforce his uncompromising strategy that he has shown in his last fights.
And with that in mind, I have to do a complete counter style. So my approach is that I respect him, but I have to be absolutely ruthless,” Procházka told iSport.
There’s no hot blood between the fighters, which many are sympathetic to. They have a natural respect for each other and so far there doesn’t seem to be a shake-up.
“I believe it’s because we both have it straightened out in our heads. I know what I want, what I’m going for, what I’m going to do to get it. Now it’s just a matter of proving it. And he went beautifully for the title, an amazing line of wins.
We’re both clear on that. I can feel from him that wrestling really lives in the heart. He’s not going for power. He doesn’t play games, trash talk or anything. He goes clear and straight,” he added.
The twenty-nine-year-old MMA fighter is now less than a month away from the fight that will be the most important of his career so far. If he wins, he’ll hold the title and his next opponent would be Blachowicz, which would allow him to showcase himself in Europe.
