Jiří Procházka still doesn’t have another fight officially confirmed, but he wants to return before the end of this year. There has been a lot of discussion about who his opponent will be. UFC boss Dana White was clear, however, the Moravian fighter has now pointed to someone else.
Is it decided? When Jiri Prochazka defeated Glover Teixeira to win the welterweight championship belt, there was a lot of talk about who his first challenger would be. The Brazilian immediately demanded a rematch, but there were a lot of “buts” in play.
First of all, UFC boss Dana White himself had previously announced that the winner of the Prochazka vs. Teixeira fight would go with the winner of the duel between Magomed Ankalaev and Anthony Smith. The duel is generally expected to be won by the former.
Ankalaev has taken a few jabs at Prochazka since his victory. However, former champion Jan Blachowicz also wanted to get involved and would like to stage the biggest fight in European history. Procházka liked the idea, but he clearly has a different plan now.
“I have made a decision about my next fight. I want to fight Glover Teixeira in my next fight. It’s not because it’s going to be another big fight. I have one clear reason. I gave a bad performance in the first fight. Now I want to show why I’m the champion. Clearly and unquestionably,” the Moravian fighter let his voice be heard in his statement on Instagram.
Procházka later added that he thinks the Brazilian veteran absolutely deserves the rematch and that is why he is offering it to him.
And what if this was just a cry in the dark? You can’t say that. Prochazka was at the UFC’s most recent event in Las Vegas and held talks with the organization’s management about his next fight. So it’s possible that some sort of agreement has already been reached, which is the basis for the Moravian champion’s decision to make this announcement.
