The UFC 275 gala is over and it had a special flavor especially for Czech mixed martial arts fans. Jiri Prochazka showed the heart of a samurai, survived his own death several times and finally managed to finish Glover Teixeira just seconds before the end of the match.
The match, which is a few moments after the end as a candidate for the fight of the year, did not turn out the best for the Moravian fighter.
At the end of the first round, Teixeira dealt him a nasty cut above the eye and was losing to the judges as he entered the fifth round.
Although Michael Bell had it even after four rounds, Ben Cartlidge and Clemens Werner saw the fight go to the Brazilian. Moreover, Teixeira hit the Czech so hard at the start of the fifth round that Procházka was stunned.
But Jirka Procházka showed the pure heart of a samurai warrior and did the impossible. 28 seconds before the end of the losing fight, he finished Teixeira in a way that is peculiar to the Brazilian champion.
In doing so, he became the first Czech to win the coveted UFC welterweight championship belt and the bout rightfully earned the fight of the night award.
