Much has been said and written about Jiří Procházka’s injury. But now the reason has been explained by the fighter himself, who specified how the shoulder dislocation happened, adding that it was his fault and nobody else’s.

One month after the injury, Jiří Procházka described in detail what actually happened on that fateful day. In the past, it was outlined by UFC President Dana White himself, whose words have now been edited.

“It was classic light sparring. Everything was really light. It wasn’t about anyone going crazy or doing anything wrong. I just made a mistake. I let the fighter get into my back and then he threw me right on my shoulder through a suplex. That’s just the way it was.

I’m not sure how loaded that shoulder was before, but it’s been hurting for the last 5 years or so. I think there was already some damage and this just finished it off.

I take it that it just happened and it’s part of life. But I’m going to try to use this injury to come back stronger,” said Prochazka in an interview with Ariel Helwani.

What was subsequently discussed, however, was that the injury itself may not have been a problem. However, the dislocated shoulder was then tried to be put back in the gym, quite possibly damaging everything.

“The shoulder was out, so they helped me throw it. It was one of the Russian fighters from Ankalaev. He helped me right in the gym and then we went to the hospital.

The rest is history. It happened in training, so Ankalaev and everyone else was there. But I want to say that it wasn’t that anyone did anything wrong. It was just my fault. I wasn’t concentrating, so it’s my own fault,” he admitted.

He is now out of surgery, which should have gone well. But he still has a challenging recovery ahead of him and then an even more challenging return to full training.

There is no champion in his division yet, with Glover Teixeira and Jamahal Hill competing for the belt, and quite possibly the next title fight will already be with Prochazka.
