The world of combat sports is slowly coming to terms with the information that we won’t see Jiri Prochazka in the cage for many months. A shoulder injury will require surgery and the champion’s trainer Martin Karaivanov has spoken out about how it happened.
On Wednesday night, information came to light that champion Jiri Prochazka was injured. This information was soon confirmed and the wrestler himself admitted that he will have to undergo surgery.
But how did he get hurt? Martin Karaivanov, who is the coach and manager of the Czech samurai, tried to tell us about it in Snídani s Nova.
“It happened during training. During one wrestling defeat, Jiri threw his shoulder and tore the ligaments there. He had an MRI, his ligaments are torn and it looks like an operation.
The plan is that we’re going to stick around until the UFC tournament because we can’t operate right now because of the swelling. We’re consulting with doctors here in America as well as doctors in the Czech Republic and we’ll decide in the next few hours where we’re going to have the surgery.
It’s been difficult. We had talks with the UFC and after some time we came to a joint decision that this is probably the best option,” Karaivanov said.
Walk decided to vacate his title after the injury, therefore others will be able to fight for it. However, once he is back on track and wants to fight, he will automatically go for the title with the holder.
Now we can only speculate who that will be, but for now the most likely is one of the trio of Jan Blachowicz, Magomed Ankalaev or Glover Teixeira who lost his chance to take the title back into his own hands.
