The new Premier League season is here. The opener of the new season was the duel between Manchester United and Fulham, which ended in victory for the Red Devils (1: 0). On Saturday, the English top flight had six more matches on the schedule.
One of the last ones is the duel between Chelsea and Manchester City. The London club has been busy in this summer transfer window and has brought in several new players.
However, the new coach of the London club, Enzo Maresca, only sent players who wore the Chelsea jersey last season to the starting lineup against the Citizens. So none of the reinforcements made it into the starting eleven.
However, star Raheem Sterling also lost his place in the line-up. Not only that, the author of 10 goals and 8 assists last season didn’t even fit on the bench.
Sterling left out of the squad, agents want an explanation
His agents are taking his exclusion from the nomination for the match against Manchester City as a surprise and are now demanding an explanation from the club. They didn’t expect Sterling to miss the first round of the Premier League. Especially after Maresca himself described him as a very important player after the summer training.
And, as inFotball points out, “a pre-match interview with him was published on the club’s website during the week, highlighting the importance of his experience in a relatively young squad.” It is no wonder then that speculation about his departure from Stamford Bridge has begun in football circles.
“Raheem Sterling has signed a contract for another three years. He returned to England two weeks early to train individually and had a successful training session under a new coach with whom he has built a good working relationship,” the player’s agency reports via the UK’s Daily Mail.
“As always, he is determined to perform at the highest level for Chelsea and the fans, whom he holds in high regard. Given his appearance in the club’s official pre-match material this week, we expected Raheem to be involved in some capacity in this weekend’s game.
As an agency, we have always had positive dialogues with Chelsea and have sought reassurance from them about Raheem’s future at the club, so we look forward to the situation becoming clearer,” the agents added.
