Jiří Procházka is not having the best of times, as he is recovering from shoulder surgery, but he can be happy to win the prestigious poll. He and his opponent Glover Teixeira won the Best Fight of the Year category at the 2022 MMA Awards.
The Czech Republic is gradually making its mark on the world of MMA. Jiri Prochazka has done it the greatest service by becoming the first domestic fighter to become a UFC champion.
He is now out of surgery for a serious shoulder injury that has caused his defense to be postponed indefinitely. Although he’s not having the best time of his life, there is one positive development.
The Czech champion will definitely be pleased with the outcome of the 2022 MMA Awards, in which he achieved the aforementioned career milestone.
He knocked out Glover Teixeira in the last round, even though he was close to defeat. The fight entertained the fans tremendously, which is why he won the Best Fight of the Year category.
The competition wasn’t exactly small, just remember the fights Chimaev vs Burns, Gaethje vs Chandler, Volkanovski vs Ortega and Holloway vs Rodriguez.
A win in this competition is really valuable. Aleksander Volkanovski can at least rejoice in winning the Fighter of the Year category, the best fighter is Valentina Shevchenko.
There were plenty of polls, with Paddy Pimblett, for example, taking the win in the category reserved for the fighters who have broken through the most over the past year.
Basically all the polls revolved around the UFC, which is still considered the best organization. Indeed, this was confirmed by the separate category of Organization of the Year, behind which we can see Bellator, PFL, Cage Warriors and KSW.
