Pressure on Mbappé. PSG are reportedly threatening to bench their star if he doesn’t make a decision by the end of July
Here we go again, Kylian Mbappé is once again messing with the heads of both Real Madrid and PSG management. The board of the Parisian outfit should have given their star an ultimatum or they will put him on the bench.
Here we go again, Kylian Mbappé is once again messing with the heads of both Real Madrid and PSG management. The board of the Parisian outfit should have given their star an ultimatum or they will put him on the bench.
It’s been a year since Mbappé kept everyone in suspense all season and kept mum about his future until he finally made up his mind, and just before the end of his contract, he announced that he would be staying in Paris.
PSG triumphantly announced a contract until 2025, with that number even Mbappé was photographed wearing the jersey. However, it was later revealed that the contract is only valid until 2024 with an option for another season, which can only be exercised by Mbappé himself.
However, he has decided not to stay in Paris and in June he sent a letter to the club’s management saying that he would not extend his contract, but would like to finish the season and leave for free next year.
PSG can’t afford to do that because they were counting on the money from the sale of Mbappé and if he left for free, it would weigh heavily on the club’s financial fair-play calculations. So the player should have been given the message to extend his contract or leave.
Mbappé, however, remains adamant that he still wants to play next season in Paris. However, he also rules out signing a new contract. It is clear, therefore, that one side must give in. PSG, however, probably won’t.
According to the renowned newspaper The Athletic, they have given Mbappe an ultimatum. Sign a new contract by July 31 or leave. If the Frenchman doesn’t make a decision by then, the club would reportedly bench him and not start matches.
The club’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, also commented indirectly on Mbappe. ” No one is more than this institution, not even me. Anyone who doesn’t want to play for this label or doesn’t respect it shouldn’t be here,” the PSG boss said.
