Premier League team performances: Leicester have a cup team but need to improve on last year
Leicester were one of the biggest disappointments of the Premier League last season, with a decent squad they have a lot to make up for this year. What kind of squad will the Blues go into the new season with?
Leicester were one of the biggest disappointments of the Premier League last season, with a decent squad they have a lot to make up for this year. What kind of squad will the Blues go into the new season with?
The management team
The Foxes have long been led by the experienced Brendan Rodgers, who has the full backing of the Foxes fans. He also has a very good relationship with the players who look up to him and trust him because of his experience.
Goalkeeper
The situation in goal is very complicated. On Wednesday a modern icon left the club with Kasper Schmeichel and who will be the number one after his departure is the question. Probably the management will still try to hunt someone.
If they don’t get anyone, the responsibility will be on Danny Ward, who hasn’t had much of a workload in recent years.
Defense
Leicester’s defence is strong. The versatile James Justin will aspire to the left-back position, while on the right two very good players will do battle. Portugal’s Ricardo Pereira has quality in attack, while Belgium’s Timothy Castagne is better at defending.
At stopper, youngsters are preferred. Caglar Syoncu may make mistakes from time to time, but otherwise he is a reliable defender, Wesley Fofana could be one of the stars of the league in the near future. Both very fast and technical trackers.
Plus the quality will be there on the bench as well. At left-back, it will be Ryan Bertrand and Luke Thomas, and in the centre, experienced players Johnny Evans and Daniel Amartey, as well as the experienced Dane Jannik Vestergaard.
Backup
Leicester quite often play a 4-4-2 formation. The heart of the midfield should be Youri Tielemans, but he is being watched by Arsenal and even the player himself is tipped to leave. That would be a big problem for Rodgers.
In the event of Tielemans’ departure, James Maddison would likely be withdrawn to the midfield. The member of the national team’s wider squad will otherwise start on the left flank, with the idea of getting into the middle of the park when attacking.
The two-man centre midfield can’t miss Nigerian international and long-time mainstay Wilfried Ndidi, while the left wing belongs to Harvey Barnes, who is extremely dangerous thanks to his quality right foot.
Among the substitutes, central midfielders Boubakary Soumaré and Nampalys Mendy, offensive midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and winger Marc Albrighton will be ready.
Attack
It’s one speedster next to another at the top. Jamie Vardy’s position is still solid, with Kelechi Iheanacho expected to operate alongside him up front. Both very dynamic, plus Iheanacho has worked on his finishing.
In addition, another speedster Patson Daka is ready on the bench, then the typologically slightly different Ayoze Perez.
Ideal line-up:
Ward
Castagne – Soyuncu – Fofana – Justin
Barnes – Ndidi – Tielemans – Maddison
Vardy – Iheanacho
Ranking tip:: 8th place
