The last round of this season’s Premier League season will be played on Sunday. The title, the Champions League, the Europa League and staying in the top flight are all up for grabs. So what’s definitely worth watching?
The title fight
Simple maths at first glance, especially from Aston Villa’s perspective. If they lose to Manchester City, the trophy will stay at the Etihad Stadium, if the Villans score and Liverpool beat Wolves, the Reds will celebrate.
Aston Villa are coached by Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard. He has never won the Premier League and that is why the match against the Citizens will be special for him. But there is one big but in the air.
If Manchester wins the title, Aston Villa will collect an additional £15 million for the transfer of Jack Grealish.
The fight for the cups
The European Cup is also at stake. Tottenham are almost certain of fourth place, just needing not to lose to relegated Norwich, plus in parallel Arsenal would have to win against Everton, who in turn secured their salvation on Thursday.
Sixth-placed Manchester United has a two-point lead over seventh-placed West Ham, with the score playing to the Hammers in the event of a draw. The Red Devils will play their battle at Crystal Palace, while Tomas Soucek and co. take on Brighton on the south coast.
The fight for salvation
Burnley picked up an important point against Aston Villa on Thursday to jump up to seventeenth place. Before the last round, it has the same number of points as eighteenth-placed Leeds, with the scoreline playing clearly for the Clearets.
Leeds, however, have an easier opponent on paper – Brentford. Burnley, on the other hand, has the home advantage and will face Newcastle, one of the best teams in the league since the winter. On Friday, for example, they beat Arsenal 2-0.
The final round of the Premier League will surely bring many a heart attack, with the final thirty-eight acts taking place entirely on Sunday. All ten matches will kick off at 5pm.
