The 6th round of the English league is over. Once again there was no shortage of big surprises. Almost all favourites lost points. Manchester City dominated the showpiece of the round, Soucek and co. made a great turnaround against Leeds, Liverpool took the lead and Arsenal dominated the London derby. What does the line-up look like?

In the clash of the giants, Manchester City did better

An attractive duel between Chelsea and Manchester City was on the agenda at the start of Round 6. It was also the biggest draw of the round, as it was a clash between the two biggest favourites for the title.

Chelsea have been more successful in these matches lately, but this time it was the other way around. Guardiola chose a great tactical plan that worked perfectly.

The visitors gave a top performance and didn’t give their opponents any chance. Chelsea defended for most of the game, not firing a single shot on target in 90 minutes.

Thanks to a goal by Jesus, the Citizens won 1: 0 and scored a very important victory. Chelsea, on the other hand, lost their league unbeaten run. The away side moved up to second place with the win and are now just one point behind leaders Liverpool.

The Hammers’ fantastic turnaround was completed by Antonio

West Ham also had a tough draw. The London club played against the unpredictable Leeds. The team of coach Bielsa is not experiencing an ideal start to the season, but it should not be underestimated. And the match clearly proved that. The favourites were more than a match for the opposition.

In fact, the home side took an unexpected lead thanks to Raphinha. That was an unpleasant complication for West Ham. In the 53rd minute Soucek equalised, but his goal was disallowed due to a foul by Antonio.

The visitors equalised in the 67th minute. Bowen’s shot was unluckily knocked into his own net by Firpo. The match was quickly coming to an end and it seemed that the attractive match would end in a draw.

However, at the end of the match, Antonio showed his greatness once again. In the 90th minute, he made an excellent individual break and secured the victory for his team. An extremely valuable 3 points for West Ham, who remain in direct contact with the top of the league.

Liverpool become the new leaders

After losses to Chelsea and Manchester United, Liverpool only needed to gain at least a point to move into 1st place. They managed to do that, but they definitely cannot be satisfied with the result of their match.

In a crazy shootout, they drew with Brentford 3-3 and scored an unexpected loss. The newcomer to the Premier League played a great game, literally torturing the favourite with their dangerous breaks.

Liverpool managed to turn the game around and even led twice. However, neither time could they hold on to the lead. It was the result of poor efficiency and the defence didn’t have its day either. A needless loss for Liverpool, enough to finish off the newcomer.

Still, there are a few positives for the Reds. They lead the league with 14 points, they extended their league unbeaten run and Salah scored his 100th league goal in a Liverpool jersey. However, their lead may only be temporary, as they face a tough match against Manchester City next weekend.

Arsenal’s dominant derby win crushed Tottenham 3-1

Round 6 saw the famous London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham. Arsenal deservedly won 3::1 and confirmed the increase in form. The Gunners played a top game, it was the performance of the season from their side.

Especially the first half, in which they scored 3 goals, was excellent. For Arsenal, this is the 3rd win in a row and a move to 10th place. A disappointing start to the season can be forgotten.

Tottenham’s crisis, on the other hand, continues. After a good start, it’s been a big result and game woe for them. 3 losses in a row, all to London clubs and dropping to 11th place.

Since Kane’s return to the lineup, the team’s play has been very mediocre. The Espirite Santo coach has not yet found a suitable system that can take advantage of his strengths. The English striker has been invisible in games and that is a big problem for Tottenham as a whole. The Spurs coaching staff must find a solution urgently.

Interesting stats:

  • Pep Guardiola has won 221st win as Manchester City coach, no coach before him has won more.
  • Bruno Fernandes made only his second penalty kick error in a Manchester United jersey. He converted 21 other penalties.
  • After 360 games for Leicester, Jamie Vardy scored his first own goal.
  • Mohamed Salah has scored 100 league goals in 151 Premier League games. No other Liverpool player has reached that milestone faster.
  • Tottenham have received at least 3 goals in 3 games in a row, the last time they did that was in 2003.
  • Arsenal have overtaken Tottenham in the table. They are ahead of their arch rivals for the first time since October 2020.
