Although the new season will not start until 14 August, the English top flight already knows its schedule. Manchester City are the defending champions, while Norwich, Watford and Brentford have been promoted from the Championship.
Although the new season will not start until 14 August, the English top flight already knows its schedule. Manchester City are the defending champions, while Norwich, Watford and Brentford have been promoted from the Championship. Moreover, the latter will play the PL for the first time in its history.
The first round will immediately offer an interesting match of the defending champions, who will challenge the traditionally ambitious Spurs. The latter, with a new coach, will want to attack better than the 7th place from last season, which saved the team from London the European Cups.
Brentford await the start of Arsenal and the Gunners will definitely want to enter the season as they ended the previous one. After all, they were fourth in the table in the 2021 calendar year and nearly still won the Conference League.
In the second round, we will have the London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea or the match between West Ham and Leicester. The 11th round, scheduled for 6 November, is worth mentioning, as the first Manchester derby will be played. It will also be the first time that the two highest ranked teams of the previous season will play each other.
The Liverpool derby, which will take place in Round 14, will also be worth watching. Both Everton and Liverpool have traditionally had high ambitions and the matches between them are always very exciting. Moreover, the Reds last beat the Toffees in January 2020.
Traditionally, the game will also be played at Christmas, when on St. Stephen’s Day (Boxing Day in England) the Premier League will offer a showdown between the Citizens and Leicester. But the Foxes have a tough four-legged match, with Tottenham, Everton, just Manchester City and Liverpool.
Ahead of the 14-day break, we can look forward to a good batch of games again on New Year’s Day, with Chelsea’s clash with Liverpool standing out among them. Arsenal fans will also be in for a treat, as they will be watching the clash with Manchester City.
After the winter break, the league will resume with the 22nd round and apart from the repeat of this year’s Champions League final between the Citizens and Chelsea, there will be another London derby, this time between Tottenham and Arsenal.
Not forgetting West Ham, who would like to build on the good results of the 2020/21 season. In the 25th round, David Moyes’ charges will face the Leicester Foxes.
We are coming to the end and in the 28th round we will again see the derby of the Manchester teams, which could already at this stage be a determinant for a possible title fight. Liverpool, who will challenge West Ham, or Tottenham and Everton, who will cross paths in a mutual duel, will definitely want to join the fray.
The last, on paper, more interesting matches are mostly in the penultimate round, when West Ham will challenge Manchester City and United will face Chelsea at Old Trafford. In the 38th round, the only game worth mentioning is probably Arsenal and Everton.
How it will all turn out is, of course, still up in the air. The favourites are known, as are the outsiders. But in the Premier League, even more than in other competitions, anyone can beat anyone.
