Premier League clubs have broken the record. They spent over £2 billion, more than all the other teams in the top 5 leagues combined. Chelsea reigned supreme
Money, money and more money. The summer transfer window is over and, especially in the Premier League, money was flying through the air. Twenty English Premier League clubs spent more than clubs from La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 combined.

The Premier League clubs broke the record
England’s top competition enjoys a huge following around the world. As a result, it generates large profits and expensive transfers can be afforded by almost all the clubs in it. Even the smallest clubs manage to outbid most teams in the other top five leagues.
And the Premier League overwhelmingly beats all other leagues. The English Premier League teams have spent over £2 billion. This has broken the record set in the summer of 2017, when Premier League teams paid out £1.45 billion, or over £41 billion, in transfers.
This year, English teams have reached 2.01 billion, equivalent to just under 57 billion crowns.
It’s worth noting that not even all clubs from La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 combined have spent this amount. Globally, 8 of the 10 most expensive summer transfers were made by teams from the English competition.
Chelsea, with new owners, reigned supreme
Rather surprisingly, the king of the transfer window is London’s Chelsea, who spent almost £280 million under new owners. That’s more than half of what all the clubs from the Spanish La Liga, Ligue 1 or Bundesliga spent together.
The Blues set a record. No British club in history has spent more money in one transfer window.
Even Manchester United, who have the most expensive transfer of the summer, have gone above £200 million, acquiring Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax for £85 million. The Red Devils then broke their own record for money spent in a single transfer window.
Nottingham Forest also made history. The Premier League newcomer signed 21 new players, breaking the record. No British club has acquired so many players in one transfer window.
