On Saturday at 18:00, another Group F match was played between Turkey and Portugal. The favourites from the Iberian Peninsula won 3:0 and are now clearly in first place. However, from an organisational point of view, the match was not as smooth as the result.
The Portuguese didn’t make the match difficult
The Portuguese scored their first goal after 20 minutes of play when Bernardo Silva made no mistake with a shot in the whitewash. The second goal was given to them by the Turks when stopper Akaydin and goalkeeper Bayindir misunderstood in a very curious situation. Stoper’s pass was heading for goal while the goalkeeper went for the ball outside the box.
Bruno Fernandes added another goal after Ronaldo’s selfless pass into an empty net. “This should be shown in football academies all over Portugal.
A big player is alone in front of the goalkeeper and passes it. He showed that the team is always the main thing,’‘ praised the striker, Portuguese coach Roberto Martínez. The state of the match did not change after that goal, although something interesting did happen.
The blemish on the match was a few unruly fans
In the 69th minute, a young Cristiano Ronaldo fan ran onto the pitch. With his mobile phone in hand, he ran up behind him and asked for a selfie. The Portuguese captain obliged him and the boy then ran away from the organisers back into the stands.
However, this nice gesture had consequences. During the match, two more Ronaldo fans ran onto the pitch, but this time CR7 didn’t comply with the request, instead he avoided them and wanted them to leave the pitch.
“It’s a bit annoying because it interrupted the game. But that’s just the price of being a football star. But if I felt threatened? No,” Bernardo Silva, the scorer of the first goal, described his view of the situation.
“It’s dangerous. We all love the fans, for whom the players are stars. We agree on that. But it was a tricky situation. If the fans didn’t have good intentions, the players were at their mercy. That shouldn’t happen,‘ Portugal coach Roberto Martínez said after the game.
