The potential link between Red Bull and Porsche has been speculated for a long time and now the first revelation has come. The German marque is to be associated with Red Bull for the next ten years, buying out as much as 50% of the Austrian team!
After a very long debate, it looks like the all-clear is now finally in. As part of its entry into Formula 1 (from 2026), Porsche will begin a partnership with the Red Bull Racing team.
So the current plan is that this collaboration would work on a powertrain supplier basis, at least half of it. Indeed, Red Bull plans to start producing its own internal combustion engines from 2026, when the new powertrain regulations come into force, through its own company, Red Bull Powertrains.
At that point, Porsche would focus on the hybrid part of the powertrain. However, the conclusion of this collaboration has long been a fairly clear-cut issue in the F1 environment, but both parties have been held up by formal processes.
Red Bull and Porsche had to notify their intention and the joint project to the antitrust authorities in some 20 countries outside the European Union. One of these countries is Morocco, for example, whose government legislation provides that such applications are subject to mandatory disclosure once approved.
Thus, in order to get the green light, both companies had to come clean and reveal the details of their future collaboration, which has now been made public by the Conseil de la Concurrence in Morocco.
Porsche has bought a 50% stake in the Red Bull Racing team
And according to Motorsport, the document reveals that Porsche announced on July 8 that it is going for a 10-year partnership with Red Bull, which also includes a 50% stake in the team.
According to the latest reports, this collaboration will be formally announced by the Austrian team on August 4. However, the original plan was that the Porsche and Red Bull partnership would be announced symbiotically on the occasion of the Austrian Grand Prix.
However, this plan has been postponed by both parties because the World Motor Sport Council has not approved the regulations for power units from 2026. And it is on the approval of the regulations that the entry of the German brands into Formula 1 (Porsche and Audi) currently depends.
While the Moroccan document only talked about the merger of Porsche and Red Bull, in all likelihood, this will also affect sister team AlphaTauri. Anything else would be illogical given the synergies between the two teams. But the Faenza team will remain 100% in Red Bull’s hands.
