The turf at the Santiago Bernabéu has always been first class and a great pride of Real Madrid. However, it is currently giving the management a big wrinkle because it is in a catastrophic state. How will Los Blancos deal with the situation?

The condition of the Bernabéu pitch was very bad in September. The Extremadura turf reportedly did not root properly due to the high heat and resembled a field in places. Players and coaches complained about it publicly, and the club knew they had to do something about it.

So, during the national break, Real Madrid installed a brand new turf at a cost of 300,000 euros, which made its debut in the match against Osasuna.

The problems seemed to be solved, only the turf didn’t settle properly again. After a few games the turf started to tear again, it is very unstable and very slippery. In fact, the problem is rooted deeper, which creates a lot of concern.

Players are kicking the turf, the ball is stopping, often at key and crucial moments. This is probably why Real lost to Girona at home at the weekend, and Ancelotti remembered the turf again after the game.

So in recent days, the management consulted the state of the turf with experts, but also with the players themselves. For now, they have decided not to take any radical step, but to rely on a long break.

The last match at the Bernabéu will be played on 10.11 against Cadiz, after which the World Cup in Qatar will be next. Real Madrid will play their first two games away after returning from the championship, then it will be the Spanish Super Cup.

The next game at the Chamartín stadium will not be played until 29 January. The Bernabéu turf will have 81 days to get in order.

Madrid are even thinking of lifting the whole pitch again to look for an explanation for the problem. However, experts believe that a three-month break will return the grass to its standard condition, so that the playing surface will once again resemble a green carpet.
