According to the latest reports, Paul Pogba was the victim of a major blackmail when he was even attacked by armed gang members. Under threat and a lot of pressure, he finally agreed to pay 100 000 euros and his case is currently being investigated by the police. What did the French midfielder actually reveal?
A few hours ago, Sportbible reported that Pogba turned himself in to the police, saying that he had agreed to pay the money to two armed men after being detained at gunpoint in an alleged extortion attempt.
The incident reportedly took place in a Paris apartment on March 19, with the armed men from the gang demanding a payment of €13 million from the Juventus midfielder.
France’s RMC then also claimed that Pogba paid the gang €100,000 in an attempt to satisfy their demands, with the French international later contacting the police.
Four other men have also been investigated in connection with the alleged extortion attempt and criminal conspiracy.
“I was scared, the two of them pointed their guns at me. So when I was detained like that, under threat, I told them I would pay,” said Pogba, quoted by Le Monde.
The alleged extortion attempt came to light last month when his older brother Mathias Pogba posted a video in which he pledged to reveal hot information about his brother Paul.
However, the subsequent statement that the whole world needs to know certain things about the Juventus midfielder has been described by Paul’s side as a long-term blackmail. Paul Pogba thus reported to the police, moreover, that he had been harassed by the gang on several occasions, with these men even appearing on Juventus’ training ground. This was specifically in July this year.
The group, which is still demanding money from Pogba, claims to have protected Pogba for 13 years, with Mathias rejecting the allegations against him, calling his younger brother a coward, a traitor and a hypocrite.
On the basis of this information, Paul’s lawyer Yassine Bouzrou also weighed in on the matter, telling French television station BFMTV after his client was charged
Not only Le Monde, but also other French media outlets claim that Pogba is currently under police protection while the investigation into the allegations is ongoing.
