Viktoria Plzeň will play in the Champions League group stage, where they will take on Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. However, the roster can only have 25 names, four of which must be from the youth team, so some players were not available.

When the draw for the Champions League was made, there was great joy in the Štruncové sady cabin. Everyone wanted to play at Camp Nou, Allianz Arena, San Siro or in front of their own fans.

Unfortunately, Michal Bílek had to make cuts. UEFA only allows 25 names on the roster, four of which must be youth players (players who have been at the club for at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21). Only Jan Sýkora meets that requirement, leaving three spots empty.

After Saturday’s game against Liberec, the management team had to cut four players. In the end, Radim Řezník, Cadu, René Dedič and Filip Kaša were selected. The freshest reinforcements, Adam Vlkanova and Fortune Bassey, fit on the roster.

The experienced right back is injured with a tendon problem in his knee. His return to the field is not yet determinable, so he is one of the “unsigned”. Another one in the crosshairs is Kasha, who has been suffering from a lot of competition at stopper. Bílek is relying on the pair of Hejda – Pernica, with Mohamed Tijani backing them up, and Václav Jemelka is also available at left back.

Brazilian Cadu has been a mere substitute lately, having sat on the bench for seven games in a row. He last played against Pardubice on August 6.

Dedic, on the other hand, came as a reinforcement out of necessity, a player to expand the squad. He’ll fill in when needed in the league, but he’s not a Champions League player. Before him in the hierarchy of strikers is Chorý, Kliment and Bassey.
