Viktoria Plzeň will face the third preliminary round of the European Conference League this Thursday. On Monday, however, they will find out who they will face if they advance. Eight teams are in the running.
We already know the opponents, or rather the pairs whose winners Slavia, Sparta and Jablonec could play against if they advance, but we had to wait a few days for Plzeň.
In the European Conference League qualification the clubs will be divided into several groups to make the draw easier and shorter. After that, only the group numbers are drawn and the pairings are ready in a few minutes.
Viktoria will still be seeded in the fourth round, of course, if they advance past Welsh side The New Saints. This will avoid teams like Sivasspor and Tottenham Hotspurs.
It can face the winners of the four group stage double matches. The toughest opponent would probably be Portugal’s Ferreira, who face Northern Ireland’s Larne in the third preliminary round.
There could also be another Scottish-Czech clash, should Aberdeen get past Iceland’s Breidablik. The big unknown is Serbia’s Cukaricki, who will face Sweden’s Hammarby in the last preliminary round.
The last pairing is CSKA Sofia vs. Osijek. If the former advances, Viktoria could pay back Bulgarian football for Lokomotiv Plovdiv, who ended Slovácko’s run in this competition on penalties.
The draw will take place on Monday 2 August at 14:00 and you can watch it on the UEFA website.
