Plzen is close to becoming the worst team in Champions League history. The “triumph” is being fought over by Rangers
Viktoria Plzeň is enjoying the millionaire Champions League, but it can also make a negative mark on the history of the elite competition. After all, they are far from the worst Champions League team in history.
Viktoria Plzeň is enjoying the millionaire Champions League, but it can also make a negative mark on the history of the elite competition. After all, they are far from the worst Champions League team in history.
A total of 21 teams in the history of the Champions League have managed to finish the group stage without gaining a single point. Dinamo Zagreb hold the previous record as the worst team in the Champions League group stage from the 2011/12 season, with the Croatians finishing their Champions League journey with a negative score of -19.
But Viktoria Plzeň are already close to that. After beating Barcelona 1::5, Bayern 0::5 and 2::4 and Inter 0::4 and 0::2, they have zero points and a score of 3::20, so they are in negative -17.
Thus, if Plzen loses by three goals in its last match against Barcelona, it will become the worst team in the history of the Champions League. However, it still has one more hope to avoid this unwanted first place.
They are up against Scottish Rangers, a very unpopular team in the Czech Republic. Morelos and co. have zero points in a group with Napoli, Liverpool and Ajax and a score of 1::19.
In their last match they have Ajax at home, who are not so shining this season and have only got three points, just with Rangers. The Dutch side won 4: 0 at home, if they repeat that at Ibrox Stadium, Rangers will go down in infamous history.
