Viktoria Plzeň will be the only team from the Czech Republic to qualify for the Champions League, thanks to their dominance of our top competition, and they know who they will play.

Michal Bílek did a great job with his team last season. Before last season, there was practically no talk about Viktoria Plzeň fighting for the title. There was talk of defending Slavia Prague or the potential return of Sparta.

However, neither of the predicted scenarios came true, and it was Plzeň who presented themselves as the most consistent team in the Fortuna Liga, not always playing the most attractive football, but making the fewest mistakes and losing the least. Moreover, they acted very compact despite the problems.

As a reward for winning the league, the West Germans will participate in the Champions League. However, they will only start their journey in the second qualifying round, so they will have a tough task ahead of them if they make it to the group stage.

And now Bílka’s team knows who they can face. Already on Tuesday the circle of potential opponents became clear, but Wednesday’s draw, which took place in Nyon, Switzerland, pointed to a specific pair.

What is certain is that Plzen will start the double-header away. The teams HJK Helsinki and RFS Riga will battle it out to see who will challenge them. Helsinki is the Finnish champion, with three-time national team player Petr Mares now playing for Riga.

The qualification matches of the 2nd preliminary round will be played on 19-20 and 26-27 July. Viktoria can therefore slowly start preparing.
