Karolina Pliskova failed to beat Jil Teichmann on Wednesday and dropped her first match in Rome. Yet this is her favourite tournament, where she has done well in recent years. The Czech Republic’s last hope at the tournament has been extinguished.
Tennis players from the Czech Republic are suffering from various problems. Barbora Krejčíková, Petra Kvitová, Markéta Vondroušová and Kateřina Siniaková did not take part in the tournament in Rome.
Three of our tennis players, namely Tereza Martincova, Karolína Muchová and Karolina Plíšková, were present in the main stage of the tournament. However, all three tennis players failed to win their first matches.
Muchova was the first to drop out on Monday, when she lost to Petra Marticova in three sets 2::6, 6::3 and 1::6. The match lasted two hours.
On Tuesday the same fate befell Marticova, who made it through the qualification to the main stage. She was defeated by Amanda Anisimova 6: 2, 0: 6 and 6: 4.
The last hope was Pliskova, who has been giving great performances in Rome in recent years. She won the tournament in 2019 and reached the final in the other two years.
But she didn’t even make it through her first match. As already mentioned, she couldn’t keep up with Jil Teichmann and lost 2::6, 6::4 and 4::6. However, it was a great fight that lasted two hours and 42 minutes.
