Plašil made his debut as Bordeaux coach. But after the loss, his team is last

Quite a hot news, but it somehow went unnoticed. Jaroslav Plašil became the interim coach of French Bordeaux, but his team lost 2: 3 to Lens and is last in Ligue 1.

Plašil has been Bordeaux’s assistant until now, having retired from the jersey in 2019. However, Vladimir Petkovic was sacked at the beginning of last week after poor results and the club brought in the former Czech international as interim coach.

However, the only Czech coach in the Top 5 leagues did not start his journey successfully. After half an hour his charges were already down 0:3 at Lens, but after half-time they at least reduced the deficit to 2:3, but they could not avert the defeat.

It was the fifth defeat in the last six matches and Bordeaux fell to the last place in the table. However, the situation is not so abysmal, they are only one point behind the last non-relegation place.

The bottom of Ligue 1 is very even. Twentieth-placed Bordeaux and nineteenth-placed Metz have 20 points, while three other teams (St. Etienne, Lorient, Troyes) have 21 points.

“It hurts to be last. We knew it was going to be a tough game, and it proved to be. We have to pick our heads up, try to change something and work hard. We have to try to see the positive. We were able to pull within one goal, it means that this team has inner strength and can do something,” Plašil told L’Équipe after the game.
