The biggest contender is Harry Kane. He is the favourite to win mainly because he is one of the captains of the national team and has a lot of supporters in the Islands. Yes, he has scored three goals and assisted once, but he has only helped Tottenham to six points out of a possible fifteen. With the quality of the Spurs squad, it’s simply not a performance worthy of a Player of the Month award.
Che Adams has had a very good month. It’s a similar case to Joao Moutinho in January, had he been playing for a bigger club he would have won the award without a doubt. He scored in all four rounds for Southampton, hitting against Tottenham, Norwich and Manchester United. It was mainly through him that Saints gained ten points from four games.
After a long time we had the opportunity to see Wilfried Zaha, according to Vladimir Coufal the best dribbler in the league, in his top form again. He scored two goals for Watford, one for Norwich, he tore the opponent’s defence apart with his movement and accurate finishing from outside and inside the box.
The dark horse may be Joel Matip. The Cameroonian defender shadowed Virgil van Dijk in the defensive pairing and greatly helped Liverpool to partially erase the deficit to first placed Manchester City. He also scored and assisted once.
Burnley’s rise up the table could also be noted. The arrival of striker Wout Weghorst helped, the whole team went up. Ben Mee, at fullback, blocked shot after shot and scored the decisive goal in the win over Spurs. A well-deserved nomination.
The inclusion of Ryan Fraser, on the other hand, is a little surprising. Like the rest of Newcastle, the Scottish speedster has picked himself up, on the other hand Fraser has only scored one goal and assisted once. Outsider selection, chances of winning almost nil.
