Viktoria Plzeň will play the group stage of the Champions League! Last year’s Fortuna Liga champion took on Karabakh and although they were trailing, goals from Jan Kopic and Jan Kliment turned the tide in the second half.

Lukáš Kalvach created the first chance of the match in the second minute, but missed the right post by a whisker. Viktoria was clearly more active from the start, after twelve minutes of kicking they had four corner kicks.

As time went on, the game evened out, and the second fifteen minutes belonged to Karabakh, but with only one inaccurate shot. By the 38th minute, the visitors were celebrating. Filip Ozobic headed the ball in from a volley and even the in-form Jindřich Staněk had no chance.

The visitors were clearly more active going into half-time, with Richards narrowly missing from distance. The Victorians managed to hold on to the end of the first half and went into the cabins with a 0:1 scoreline.

After the change of sides, Kady shot, the ball floated dangerously in flight, but Stanek eventually cleared it. On the other hand, Pilsen took advantage of the first chance of the first half. The visitors’ goalkeeper made a mistake and Jan Kopic hit the half-empty goal from the edge of the area.

The goal gave Plzeň some energy, but they could not turn the pressure into a turnaround. In the 72nd minute, it finally worked. Jhon Mosquera found Jan Kliment in front of the goal, who beat the visitors’ goalkeeper with a spectacular finish.

In the 84th minute, Ramil Sheydaev froze the fans, but just missed from the edge of the box. Viktoria secured the victory and advanced to the Champions League for the fourth time in their history.
