Viktoria Plzen have played one of their last two matches in the Champions League preliminary round against Karabakh, and they took home a result from Azerbaijan that could help them advance.
The Westerners kept the score at zero on the hot Azerbaijani soil. And a lot of credit for that goes to goalkeeper Stanek, who caught a lot of promising opportunities for Karabakh and did not let a single shot attempt go behind his back.
However, you can see his best saves in the attached Twitter post below. In total, Stanek made seven great saves.
“I was expecting a lot of work. Karabakh is an incredibly good team that has great individuality,” Stanek said in an interview with the club’s website.
Viktoria Plzen captain Lukáš Hejda even compared him to Dominik Hašek, who played for the Czech national team in the famous Nagano tournament.
“I’ve already got used to his performance. What goes through the defence, he always catches. He’s like our Dominik Hašek from Nagano,” Hejda said.
The twenty-six-year-old goalkeeper has already been very reliable last season, which he crowned in the European Cups. Staněk has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the entire Fortuna Liga and if he ever receives an offer from abroad, it would probably come as no surprise.
