Czech national team stopper Tomas Petrasek celebrates winning his second trophy in the last six months. He helped Raków to win 4:3 in the Polish Super Cup penalty shootout with a penalty.
Raków Częstochowa is not one of the most famous clubs in Poland, five years ago it was playing in the third league, last year it was fighting for salvation, and this year it was fighting for the European Cup. They finished a respectable second in the league and also dominated the Polish Cup.
As in six of the last seven editions, Legia won the league by a wide margin and next week they will face the second Champions League preliminary round.
Legia, as the favourite for the Super Cup, was already losing from the tenth minute and seemed unable to respond. It was only in the second half that Mahir Emreli managed to equalise and since there is no extra time in the Super Cup, it was a penalty shootout.
In the first series, two Czechs kicked. Tomáš Pekhart and Tomáš Petrášek converted their penalty kicks, then one shooter on each side failed, but the key penalty was not given by Emreli, the equaliser.
Czech stopper Petrasek celebrates his first trophy this season and can prepare for the Conference Europa League preliminary rounds, Pekhart has to wait for his first triumph.
