Czech tennis player Petra Kvitova was unable to follow up her great results from the last few days at the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami and after the quarterfinal clash with the emerging world number one she said goodbye to the tournament.
Kvitova entered the match highly motivated after a sensational turnaround in her match against Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova, who she was already down 0:4 games in the second set. But after almost two hours of fighting, she finally managed to turn around the almost lost set and advance to the semi-finals.
There the Czech tennis player was waiting for the current world number two in the WTA rankings, Poland’s Iga Swiatek. The latter went on to win the Indian Wells tournament last week and has continued her great run in Miami so far, not losing a set. And that remains true after her match with Kvitova.
The great Polish player also beat her without losing a set. In the first set, the sixth game was fatal for Kvitova, in which Swiatek created two break points and managed to take the first one without any problems.
In the second set, Swiatek used two more and after 6::3, 6::3 she advanced to the semifinals where she will play American Pegula.
And since the world number one Ashleigh Barty unexpectedly ended her career, it will be the Polish player who will take her place on the world throne this season thanks to her amazing run.
