If Mrazek is healthy, he’s been a great catcher
The Chicago Blackhawks are going through a rebuild and it will be a while before the team looks at the playoffs. The lineup is just starting to take shape around the number one overall pick Connor Bedard.
However, he is already out for a few games and will be out for a few more weeks, specifically due to a broken jaw.
Anyway, this season the Chicago team is one of the worst teams in the entire league. However, the Czech goalie, along with Connor Bedard, are among the bright exceptions on an otherwise below-average team. Mrazek confirms that if he is not limited by injuries, he can return to his former great form.
Mrazek is averaging 2.99 goals per game in 32 games this season. That’s obviously not among the top of the league. But considering he is catching behind a very penetrating Chicago defense and has a hit success rate of over 90 percent, those are very solid numbers.
He is 12th in the number of wins and at least three of those wins have come from the Czech goalie. In some games, he made some really great saves to bring the Chicago team to the winning end, even though the team should not have taken the points at all.
The contract is for two more seasons at $8.5 million. A seasoned goalie like Mrazek certainly deserves it for the performance he has put in this season.
The Chicago team has not yet confirmed the signing of a new contract.
