Former Czech national team goalkeeper Petr Cech expressed his displeasure about the quarantine of Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell.
The England national team played a match against their arch rivals Scotland last Friday. The match at Wembley ended in a 0-0 draw. In the match against the Scots, England lost not only 2 points, but also 2 players who are not allowed to play against the Czech Republic.
These are two teammates from Chelsea – Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell. After the game, both players went to talk to another London Blues player, 20-year-old Billy Gilmour.
However, Billy Gilmour later tested positive for Covid-19 and Mount and Chilwell were too close to him. as a result, the result is a quarantine for them, which will last until June 28.
The English media and the public in particular are now addressing one question that quite naturally presents itself. How is it that the rest of the Scotland national team is off the hook and the quarantine does not affect them?
“It’s incomprehensible!“
In light of this information, former Chelsea goalkeeper and now one of the London club’s senior officials, Petr Cech, has also commented on the matter. He called the whole situation incomprehensible.
“Please, can someone help me understand how it is possible that Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell, both of whom have tested negative, have to be quarantined after coming into close contact with Billy Gilmour, while the entire Scottish national team, who share a dressing room, hotel, plane, dining room and common areas, are allowed to play without any problems because they have had the required negative tests?”
This was Petr Cech’s harsh criticism of the rules regarding restrictions around the coronavirus situation. Czech is certainly not the only one on the islands who does not like this decision and does not understand it very well.
Albion coach Gareth Southgate said he did not want to cause any “drama”, but that he did not understand the decision either. Ahead of the Czech Republic match, Southgate is set to fulfil the wishes of many England fans by giving first team minutes to Jadon Sancho and allowing Grealish a longer spell as well.
