It’s been two years since Petr Čech surprised the football public with his decision to continue his sporting career in England. And he is not going to quit hockey just yet. On the contrary.
In his autobiography, the legendary Petr Čech admitted that he had wanted to become a hockey player since he was a young boy. He started to fulfil this wish after his football career ended.
In the autumn of 2019, he signed for Guildford Phoenix, which plays in the fourth English league. In the 2019/20 season, he started six games with a great success rate of 93.4%. He kept two clean sheets.
A solid achievement for a sideline outside of his job in the sports and technical department at Chelsea FC.
However, last season didn’t play out in the UK. So at least Cech supplied fans with videos of him practicing his goalkeeping skills in his garage. And all that training will be put to good use in the new season.
Guildford have announced that they have signed the Chelsea legend for the 2021/22 season. Of course with the number 39 on his back, his role model is the legendary Dominik Hašek.
It should be mentioned that Guildford Phoenix is based in the same town as the first league Flames. The two teams work closely together. Čech has even trained with the Flames. Will he get a first league start?
