Will Sergio Pérez leave Red Bull? Speculation is growing around the Mexican driver that he may not continue with the Austrian team next season. The reason for this is the poor performance, especially in the second half of this season.

Will “Checo” Pérez retain second place in the drivers’ championship at the end of the season? That’s a question that we will have to wait about two months for the answer. But one thing is almost certain.

If Pérez finishes worse than second, it will most likely mean the end of his time at Red Bull. The latter is understandably clinging to his second place in the final drivers’ championship standings and does not want his second driver to drive in the second half of the top ten.

The thirty-three year old Mexican is not only no longer a match for his teammate on the track, but he is often no match for riders from weaker teams.

In any case, Red Bull is aware of this situation, which was also confirmed by the words of team boss Christian Horner. He admitted that Pérez simply has to find his lost form, otherwise a serious conversation will follow.

Of course, he will still have a lot of support from the team, and Red Bull will try to work with him to make him the driver who helped Max Verstappen win his first title.

Dr. Marko is clear, according to Berger, Pérez needs to change the team

Pérez won two races at the start of the new season and for a while it even looked like he would be able to play an equal battle with Verstappen for the title. Or rather, that’s exactly what the driver himself proclaimed after his two victories.

But in the last three Grands Prix he has only scored five points. He’s also got Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso pressing him from behind.

According to former driver Gerhard Berger, Pérez needs a change of team to find his lost form. And Dr Helmut Marko, as a long-time Red Bull advisor, agrees.

“You mustn’t forget that I brought Pérez into the team at the time. But now he’s just struggling, it’s the same as in the case of Pierre Gasly, for example,” Marko told OE24.

“From this point of view, Berger is right. Pérez needs a change of climate, he needs a change of team. We’ll see how the next two races (in Mexico and the USA) turn out. But the team and himself realise that they are now in a crisis,” Marko added.
