Pep Guardiola has been credited with his second major setback this season. Watch how he went to take his anger out on the referee after the game

Pep Guardiola has undoubtedly had his most successful season during his time at Manchester City, winning the Champions League, the Premier League and also the FA Cup. However, the new season has not been so rosy and Wednesday’s defeat to Newcastle was the second heavy blow for the Spanish coach in a relatively short space of time.

The first setback was Manchester City’s Community Shield defeat to Arsenal on penalties. But the Citizens have already made it through the UEFA Super Cup, also beating Sevilla on penalties.

In the Premier League, Manchester City are 100% so far, but the big games are still to come. So far, they have beaten Newcastle 1-0 and West Ham 3-1.

Even in the Champions League, coach Guardiola’s charges got off to a good start, beating Red Star 3-1 at home. The other big failure is clearly the EFL Cup exit to Newcastle, which was decided by a single goal from Alexander Isak.

In the previous edition, the Citizens reached the quarter-finals, where they lost to Southampton. The cup was eventually won by Manchester United, who beat Newcastle in the final.

Both Eddie Howe and Guardiola rotated players. The Spanish coach didn’t want to send his ace in the hole Erling Haaland on the pitch, who watched the whole game from the bench.

Despite the fact that Guardiola is definitely not a big fan of the EFL Cup and the press conference made it clear that he has a great disdain for the competition, he couldn’t contain himself after the game and took his anger at being sent off out on the referee.

But of course, that didn’t do him much good and so the Citizens must look on when they visit Wolves at the weekend, after which they then face a series of three very tough clashes with Arsenal, Brighton and Manchester United.
