Manchester City have a big game on Sunday afternoon. Currently the second best team in the Premier League this season will face the leader of the table, Liverpool. A win would move the Citizens into first place.
Before the game, however, Pep Guardiola and his tactical refinement is being addressed. Indeed, his rival Jürgen Klopp is also praising him. It’s no secret that the coach of the last treble winner has it all figured out. But how much and how far ahead?
Fernandinho, the Manchester City legend who has also played under the Spanish coach, has revealed that in his own way. The former coach of Barcelona and Bayern Munich seems to have cheated the Bavarian club a little bit.
Kevin De Bruyne is now a star at Manchester City, however, apparently Bayern also pursued him. However, the transfer was supposed to be prevented by Pep Guardiola.
How did Pep Guardiola allegedly cheat Bayern?
Just like Kevin De Bruyne, Pep Guardiola both worked in the German Bundesliga before joining Manchester City. The Spanish coach led Bayern, while the Belgian footballer shone in the Wolfsburg jersey for a change.
During the memorable 2014/15 season, De Bruyne scored 16 goals and collected 28 assists. Pep Guardiola himself was able to see the qualities of the productive midfielder up close when his Bayern side lost 4-1 to Wolfsburg in one of their matches.
It was no wonder that Bayern were keen on acquiring the Belgian international. Pep Guardiola, however, was against it.
“Guardiola was at Bayern, De Bruyne was at Wolfsburg. The Bayern management wanted to buy De Bruyne. They asked Pep what he said about his arrival. He just said ‘no, no’, saying he didn’t want him because he didn’t fit into the Bayern team,” Fernandinho, a former ward of Guardiola, said on the Denilson Show.
“A year passed and De Bruyne went to Manchester City. A year later Guardiola went to City. Do you understand that? He already knew he was going to Manchester City and he sent De Bruyne there,” the Brazilian added.
