People are shouting at me to let my children die. I understand that people blame me for not taking chances, but there is a limit, says Morata
Álvaro Morata was supposed to be the attacking machine of Las Rojas. But he hasn’t found his form yet and has missed many chances, including a penalty in the match against Slovakia. The hot-blooded fans have therefore started to be very vocal about their dislike of his form.
Álvaro Morata was supposed to be the attacking machine of Las Rojas. But he hasn’t found his form yet and has missed many chances, including a penalty in the match against Slovakia. The hot-blooded fans have therefore started to be very vocal about their dislike of his form.
” I have been verbally attacked many times on social media and my wife and children are being called names in the streets of Seville.
But the worst thing is when people write to me and shout at me that they hope my children will die. My wife and children came to the game in Seville and people shouted obscenities at them in the stadium.
It’s difficult, I understand that people blame me for not taking chances, but there still has to be a limit, a limit.”
The Spanish striker was already facing criticism after his performance in the build-up against Portugal and the pressure intensified after the goalless draw with Sweden. Then, when he missed a chance after a ball deflected off the bar following Gerard Moreno’s penalty in the 1-1 draw against Poland, it was clear that the criticism would only mount.
But the biggest setback came in the match against Slovakia (5: 0), where Morata failed to convert a penalty. The Juventus striker also said afterwards that he had a sleepless night after the game, as he kept replaying the missed penalty kick.
However, he doesn’t regret playing the penalty kick and is proud of himself for being able to stand up for the penalty despite being booed by the fans before the game.
“A few years ago I would have been devastated, but now I am really motivated, plus I feel a huge support from all my teammates who help me a lot,” he remains confident.
So we will see if Morata’s performance will improve and if the coach will continue to trust him. But it is clear that if the Spanish striker finds his lost form, the performance of the whole national team will go up with him.
