Peňáz back in the Oktagon
Oktagon 35 is behind us and besides the amazing tournament the organization has announced other big news. Among other things, it announced the big return of Matej Peňáz, who didn’t get a UFC contract as part of Dana White’s Contender Series.
Matej was no match for his opponent in the chance of a lifetime, so there was no doubt that the famous promoter did not choose him for his top MMA league in the world. Oktagon announced that Matej will be seen at the Ostrava gala with number 37, but has not revealed his opponent yet.
Tereza Bledá, who had the same opportunity as Matěj, did much better. She did not give her opponent a chance and dominated the whole fight. Still, she did not impress the charismatic UFC promoter and did not get the contract of a lifetime.
As for Bleda, promoter Novotny explained
There has been speculation about Tereza’s future as well, because given her qualities, it will be hard to find opponents on the domestic scene. This was practically confirmed by the co-owner of Oktagon Ondřej Novotný.
“It’s true that it will be very difficult with her,” Novotny said at the press conference.”Because she won completely dominantly and there are not so many girls in that weight, but we always managed somehow,” he admitted.
“While we talked about Matěj a few hours after he failed, André (Reinders) hasn’t approached me at all about Tereza,” he said, adding that no negotiations have taken place yet. “I don’t know how they have it, so I expect him to be the one to make the first move, ” he described.
In any case, the promoter confirmed that Terka Bledá still has a valid contract with Octagon. Novotny then responded to a reporter who asked him if the organization’s priority was their path to the UFC or building within their organization.
“Their path to the UFC can never be our priority,” he said firmly. “We wish everyone the best, but we wish it for ourselves, and I think that’s fair, ” he added.
