Penalty for Verstappen! Who do you think is responsible for the crash in Monza? Hamilton is clear

On Sunday, the 14th round of this year’s Formula 1 season took place at the Monza circuit. We witnessed two accidents, but one of them caused quite a row between the fan camps. Who was responsible for Verstappen’s collision with Hamilton?

The 26th round of the Italian Grand Prix produced a very dramatic and fraught moment. It was a collision between the two main protagonists for the championship.

Hamilton, who had a slightly slower pit-stop, was coming out of pit lane on cold tyres. It was thanks to a not-so-fast stop that Lando Norris, followed by Verstappen, managed to overtake him.

And it was the Dutch Red Bull driver who had a wheel-to-wheel battle with him at Turn 1. We all know how that turned out. But feel free to watch this accident again.

The stewards subsequently ruled that Verstappen was to blame for causing the accident. He subsequently received a penalty in the form of a drop of three positions at the start of the next Russian Grand Prix.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner, however, sees this as a fairly typical racing incident. ” Lewis gave him plenty of room on the run into the first corner, but in our opinion he may have closed him down too much in the second,” Horner told Sky Sports.

“You can look at it and argue that one should have gone straight, you can argue that the other should have been given more room. If you can’t apportion blame, you’d have to say it’s fifty-fifty. And so I think from our point of view, from my point of view, it’s a racing incident,” he continued.

In the end, though, the stable boss is disappointed with the penalty for Verstappen. The most important thing, however, is that no one was injured.

Hamiton also gave a rich commentary on the incident. “I am proud of the stewards. I need some time to think about it, but I think it definitely sets an important precedent for the future – that there are strict rules.

It will continue until we learn from our actions on the track. There have been no similar incidents in my past. When you get away with things like this, it makes it easy to continue.

I think all the riders are riding the edge. When we are on the inside, every rider, past or present, will try to maintain their position. Of course, when you’re going wheel to wheel into a corner and the car is still next to you on the outside, you have to back off and give it more room.

He also shared that there is a well-known rule that says if the driver is in front, the corner is his. According to him, the other driver then has to back off. This is how respect should work between the drivers on the track. Verstappen is said to have pushed him off the circuit in this case.

Hamilton also commented on his Twitter account. Here he mentions how lucky he was that he didn’t lose his head or suffer any serious injuries. This is thanks to the halo system, which saved Romain Grosjean’s life last year, for example.

Naturally, the whole incident has caused a lot of conjecture, especially in both fan camps. Is this a hard racing incident? Is Verstappen really to blame? Did he go into turns one and two too aggressively or is Hamilton overreacting?

Clearly, the championship fight is going to escalate rapidly with this collision. And not just on the track or in the media.
