Thirty-three-year-old striker Tomas Pekhart came to Gaziantep in the summer as a big signing and was expected to score goals. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and the Turkish club decided to end their cooperation with Pekhart. Where will the next steps of the lanky striker lead?
Before the start of this season, the Prague Slavia product signed for Turkish club Gaziantep FK. He went to Turkey from Poland with the image of a striker who can score goals.
But unfortunately that didn’t happen during the Turkish mission. Pekhart started thirteen competitive matches in which he scored only two goals. And that, of course, is not enough for the demanding Gaziantep management.
The Turks decided to make a surprising decision, namely to terminate the contract with the Czech striker. According to Turkish media, Pekhart should make way for Italian striker Simon Zaza.
However, Gaziantep have to act quickly because they are not the only interested party in Zaza. Spanish clubs Cadiz and Valladolid are also interested in the thirty-one-year-old striker.
And reportedly, this should not be Gaziantep’s only reinforcement. The club’s management have a total of four reinforcements on their list, including Zaza.
And the future of Pekhart? The experienced forward should have no shortage of offers. He was on the list of several clubs in the summer.
Namely Viktoria Plzen, Turkish Rizespor, American New York Red Bulls or Polish Raków Czestochowa.
A contract extension with Legia Warsaw was also in the cards, but it didn’t happen in the end. The native of Sušice has made a very good name for himself in Poland, where he could logically return.
