Legia Warsaw recorded its 14th victory in the Polish top flight on Sunday and after 24 matches is second in the league table with 49 points.
The famous Polish club defeated the tenth-placed team Stal Mielec 2-0, with Czech forward Tomas Pekhart contributing a goal.
The native of Sušice scored in the opening minutes of the second half, specifically in the 49th minute, when his goal was assisted by twenty-one-year-old Albanian striker Ernest Muci. The home side scored their second goal in the 85th minute.
This was thanks to Serbian midfielder Filip Mladenovic, who scored his sixth goal this season. Legia won the match 2:0 and consolidated their position in second place in the table.
Lech Poznan is now nine points ahead of third-placed Lech Poznań, but nine points behind leader Raków. In any case, Pekhart surpassed a big milestone, as he scored his 100th goal in the first league competition on Sunday.
The thirty-three-year-old striker had his best season in a Legia jersey in the 2020/21 season, scoring 22 goals in 25 games. The next season, however, didn’t work out so well for him. He scored only nine times in 31 games, and he moved to Turkey for this season.
However, he did not do well at Gaziantep – he scored only one goal in 12 matches, so he returned to Legia in January. Since his return, he scored for the fourth time in seven competitive matches, including the Cup, and added an assist.
Next round, the Warsaw side will travel to Radom and play an important home game against Raków on 1 April.
