The upcoming presidential elections are shaking the entire Czech Republic. This Saturday we will find out whether Petr Pavel or Andrej Babiš will become the new head of state. Czech athletes are also commenting on the debates between the two candidates.
Sunday’s debate on ČT1 between the two candidates still resonates on social media. A football comparison was used by Pavel Horváth, assistant coach of Viktoria Plzeň and a club legend.
“In football terminology, I would sum up last night’s match as follows. I was looking forward to the Champions League, but the performance of one of the opponents was more on the edge of the district championship. He tried to piece the game together, there were a lot of fouls, some of them were yellow, but I would not be afraid to give a red card for some of them,” Horváth tweeted to Andrej Babiš.
“Such unsportsmanlike behaviour is reprehensible and I believe it will not be without disciplinary punishment. I appreciate the home team’s representative, who handled the match well and with a cool head, all the more. I like the name Pavel again! LET’S VOTE!” added Horváth.
After Babiš said in the debate that he would not help Poland in case of NATO, journalist Bartłomiej Wypartowicz took notice on Twitter. “Andrej Babiš is not Czech,” Baník Ostrava icon Václav Svěrkoš replied in Polish, adding the flags of both countries were joined hands.
Ondřej Zmrzlý, an Olomouc footballer and recent national team player, is also very active on Twitter. He was very harsh when Andrej Babiš won by one vote in his village and he was unable to vote because of the training camp.
“That’s my one vote I couldn’t give. But better than I expected. In the second round you will finally go to hell, you stupid pig,” Zmrzlý wrote. Even after Sunday’s debate, he had something to say. “Listening to AB (read rat) talk is self-harm,” wrote Sigma’s left back.
“I will definitely be a different president” Andrej, you will never be president, for what you are doing, I am completely calm now!” wrote Sparta footballer Lukáš Sadílek on Twitter, adding the hasthtag “this is disgusting in the nobility”.
One of the few athletes, if not the only one, who has sided with Andrej Babiš is Sparta’s Petr Pudhorocký, who left for Hradec Králové in the winter. “Let’s vote for the best,” he added to a photo of Babis on his Instagram story.
“I asked him why he thinks AB is the best choice. The answer was that he wants someone who has made money and proved something as president,” the commenter wrote.
Of course, the presidential election is also shaking up other sports. Cyclist Leopold König wrote on Twitter .
Jakub Voracek, one of the best Czech hockey players in the NHL, also often comments on politics . A normal redneck,” Voracek wrote to Babiš after the debate before the first round. “I have never seen a bigger narcissist and egghead than this pig head in my life,” the hockey player added.
