This is definitely not the first time Pogba has travelled the Manchester United-Juventus route. Before he came of age, he moved from France to the islands and straight to United. That was in 2009. He spent several years with the U18 and later U21 teams.
In 2012, the English giant decided to sell him to the ill-fated Juventus. Back then, it was a free transfer. In the following seasons, Pogba started to thrive and was one of the mainstays of the team. His price was understandably rising.
In 4 years with the team he won 4 times the championship title, 2 times the Italian Cup and 2 times the Italian Super Cup. Pogba is a creative player whose primary job is not to score goals, but rather to set up his teammates. Still, he has scored 34 goals in 178 competitive games in the black and white jersey.
A return to Old Trafford followed. Pogba arrives as a huge €100 million signing. During the opening season of 2016/2017, he won the English League Cup with the team, but in the league, the performances were only enough to finish 6th in the table.
In the better seasons, Manchester United got to 2nd place, but most of the time it was only 6th place and that means not participating in the Champions League, which is of course a problem for a club of such goals and size. The whole team has big problems and is not performing well in terms of play or results and that has been the case all these years. Erik ten Hag is coming to change that.
Pogba was gradually losing his appetite for football and his performances were like a seesaw. Coaches often complained that he was moody and didn’t want to work as much.
So it’s not such a surprise that he’s leaving the club. But he has shown many beautiful moments of football and I think he will always have his place at Old Trafford. Now he’s going to Juventus as a free agent. The details of the contract are not yet known.
