After the national break, the German Bundesliga gets underway this weekend. Bayer Leverkusen will welcome Hertha Berlin to their stadium and will have their top scorer Patrik Schick at their disposal.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Swiss coach Gerardo Seoane made the announcement at a press conference. “He has improved steadily over the last two weeks and has come through this week without any problems. He is no longer feeling the effects of his injury, although he is aware of his increasing workload.”

On the other hand, the team will be missing long-term injured players Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Amine Adli and Timothy Fosu-Mensah plus suspended Kerem Demirbay.

Schick has been absent for six weeks with a calf injury. He missed four Bundesliga games and two Europa League matches against Atalanta Bergamo. Leverkusen were thus eliminated from the European Cups after two defeats.

He could not even help the Czech national football team in the semi-final barrage match against Sweden, which decided the Czech Republic’s non-participation in the final tournament in Qatar.

However, Leverkusen are in third place in the domestic league and are fighting for a place in next year’s Champions League. Therefore, the return of its top scorer with 20 goals is a big boost. Leverkusen have only managed to win two games without Patrik.

The match against Hertha, who are fighting for salvation, will therefore be the ideal opportunity to gain three points. The latter will have a new coach for the first time, Felix Magath, who missed the last round due to a positive test for coronavirus.

Whether Schick will start from the start in the starting line-up or start on the substitutes’ bench is not yet known. He is still second in the scorers’ table. But he is already 11 goals behind the first Lewandowski.
