Bayer Leverkusen entered the match against Hertha Berlin very actively and was rewarded with the opening goal in the 12th minute.
Sardar Azmoun opened the scoring with a great pass from Jeremie Frimpong. He directed his shot to the bottom left corner of the opponent’s goal.
Xabi Alonso’s men continued to be very active, scoring their second goal in the 21st minute. This time, Frimpong was already among the scorers. However, the Leverkusen winger had to go to the locker room early due to injury seven minutes later.
By the end of the first half, the fans in the stadium could not see any more goals, but the home side clearly had the better of the game.
The second act was again in the home team’s favour
Their convincing performance continued in the second half, when Moussa Diaby’s shot in the 60th minute beat the visitors’ goalkeeper.
Seven minutes later, however, Hertha Berlin were awarded a penalty kick as Timothy Fosu-Mensah was guilty of a foul. The penalty was then converted by Dodi Lukebakio, who still gave his team hope.
But five minutes later, Amine Adli, whose goal was assisted by Czech striker Patrik Schick, dashed all hopes. You can watch the whole Leverkusen action in the video below.
No more goals were scored in this match, so the home team clearly came away with a 4:1 victory and full points. Leverkusen jumped to ninth place in the table, having collected 31 points so far.
Hertha is now in the fight for salvation. The current fourteenth position with 20 points and only one point ahead of last-placed Bochum only shows how tough a rescue battle they will still have to undergo.
In terms of individual stats, Schick has started 14 games in the current season, scoring three goals and assisting one more.
