City stumble again and fail to win the European King’s Cup
Manchester City’s players continue their misery in European cups yet again and will not lift the eared trophy for the winners of the competition above their heads in this edition of the Champions League. This pleases especially the opponents of Pep Guardiola’s team, who share the general derision of the Manchester team after their sensational exit from the competition with Real Madrid.
Although it seemed with just a few minutes to go that City would reach the final of Europe’s most prestigious competition for the second time in a row, the magical Santiago Bernabéu came alive for the umpteenth time this year. The White Ballet turned around a thrilling encounter in the end and advanced to the final in Paris.
Former United full-back Patrice Evra trolls Guardiola’s team on Instagram
One of those who enjoyed the evening to the full was legendary Manchester United full-back Patrice Evra. He reminded City fans that although the club has invested a lot of money in building up the squad in recent years, the team has so far failed to make a significant impact on the European stage.
The Frenchman, who spent eight years in the United cabinet and helped them to a Champions League triumph in 2008, posted a picture on social media showing him sitting alongside one of the Red Devils’ greatest legends, Sir Bobby Charlton. The latter also managed to win the then PMEZ with his team in 1968 against Benfica of Portugal’s Eusebio.
“How many years do you think me and Sir Bobby will have to wait,” Evra asks under a post on his Instagram, when the Manchester City team will make their first appearance as Champions League winners. “1, 5, 90 years,” he mocked his rivals.
City’s European Cup woes thus continue, and the club’s fans will have to wait at least a year for a possible victory in the competition. Now, however, Guardiola must refocus the players’ minds back to the domestic scene, where the Manchester team are defending a one-point lead over an encroaching Liverpool.
